Mission Statement

To assist low-income men, women, and at-risk youth in transition, empowering them to interview with confidence, gain employment and achieve economic self-sufficiency.

Clothes the Deal (CTD) is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization founded in 1995. CTD distributes new and gently worn business clothing to agencies serving low income individuals.

Originally, CTD focused on individuals in welfare reform. CTD first helped those participating in the Los Angeles GAIN program. GAIN (Greater Avenues for Independence) is welfare to work program which targets needy families and individuals with children under the age of 18. GAIN offers their participants medical coverage, food stamps, transportation to GAIN activities and referral services for drug abuse, domestic violence and mental health.

GAIN activities include a job club, where participants receive intense career preparation. For five weeks, GAIN clients focus on career interests, job searching techniques, resumes, and communication skills.

Description

Today CTD still provides clothing to the GAIN program, in addition to other agencies, assisting at-risk youth, homeless, domestic abuse shelters, drug & alcohol substance abuse programs, and the U.S. Veterans.

Operations: Our distribution center is located at the Los Angeles County Office of Education, in Downey. CTD collects our clothing donations from corporate sponsored clothing drives and through a network of drop-off sites. CTD's biggest problem is meeting the growing demand for larger sized clothing.
