Mission Statement

The mission of the Cobb Literacy Council: Develops and promotes resources to increase literacy in the community and workplace.

Description

Our volunteer program is designed to address the needs of adult basic education in the subject areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.

Students receiving help from the volunteers are attempting to raise their grade levels to 8.0 so that they can eventually move into a GED preparation class and take their GED exam.

Unfortunately, many students coming to our GED program are not prepared for the level of work found within a GED curriculum. That's why volunteers make the difference by working with students from second grade level up to fifth and sixth grade levels ultimately increasing their ability to merge into the GED classes and take the GED test.

I have volunteered as a math tutor here for over a year. The staff is friendly and organized, while remaining flexible to the volunteer's time. This meant all of my time could be devoted to working with adults who need a little extra help preparing for the GED. They are a pleasure to work with and every time I tutor someone I can see an immediate difference that I making in their life. It is extremely satisfying and I would recommend it to anyone.
