Description

Formed in 2010, the Lightening Alliance Community Development Corporation (LACDC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supporting former foster teens and other at-risk young adults who are transitioning to independent living. The mission of LACDC is to "lighten the load." By partnering with agencies that provide residential services, we are able to provide unique programming intended to prevent the circumstances that too often result in homelessness, lack of education, unemployment or incarceration. Our programs are specigfically designed to fill the gaps in existing programs by addressing the "poverty of being" and feelings of worthlessness that often hinder forster and at-risk youth from pursuing self-care, personal advancement and personal relationships. We focus on emotional trauma recovery by building the relational and decision-making skills needed for successful independent living. In addition to providing one-to-one Professional Life Coaching Services, we provide GroupWorkshops which include the following elements:

  • Sharing a high-nutrition meal with the residents
  • Providng relationship building and mentoring opportunities
  • Delivering prescribed programming concepts designed to empower self-sufficiency

This organization is a major blessing to at risk youth and has given me an opportunity to pour my passion into volunteering on a monthly bases to make a difference in the community. When i was in high school, I had friends who were in the foster care system and upon turning 18 found themselves out on the streets homeless, without money, without employment, and with no assistance to help them make it on their own. The Lightening Alliance Community Development Corporation is providing assistance to young people that are a lot like my friends from High School. I'm extremely thankful for this organization and the opportunity to serve as a Volunteer Committee Member. Thank You LACDC!
