Mission Statement
To provide a free, non-residential place where children and adults with cancer, along with their families and friends, join with others to build essential social and emotional support.
Description
Founded in New York in 1995 in memory of Gilda Radner, who died of ovarian cancer at the age of 43, Gilda's Club offers a one-of-a-kind approach to providing support for people with cancer. Gilda's Club Louisville, which just opened its signiture red doors on Baxter Avenue this August 2007, is a cancer support community that recognizes the emotional and social support needs of all individuals whose lives have been altered by cancer, whether patients, survivors, care givers or family members.
The activities take place in a local clubhouse that provides a welcoming, home-like environment. The clubhouse includes a community room, smaller rooms for support groups, a kitchen with a layout conducive to teaching, a living room, library, art workshop, teen game room, and 4 group/play rooms for younger children in various age groups.
