Description

Rethink Possible Initiative

was formed to address the needs of youths with a focus on at-risk youths by matching caring adults with youths who showed warning signs of dropping out of school. Youths targeted for tutoring/mentoring included those who had significant school problems.

Throughout the history of the organization, mentors and local folks have played a major role by providing program support and mentors. Mentors commit time each week to be a friend and role model for youths. The mentors offer concrete expressions of unconditional love and support to the mentees; and the two participate in activities designed to build friendship, trust, and constructive values.

The goals after becoming incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) is to create a multi-service agency to move individuals and families beyond despair, homelessness and poverty. We work to provide the working poor, underserved, and struggling middle class access to education, jobs, housing, financial literacy and emergency services. We foster personal transformation and work with the community and state for broader systems change.

Another goal is to maintain an annual giving level of approximately $100,000, and set yearly fundraising goals, and put in place the infrastructure to continue our growth.

Current fundraising activities include many small fundraisers, one special event and an annual fund appeals. The Initiative has not reached the $100,000 annual level. The Initiative is also trying to build a Business Gifts Program. Although the Initiative has been fortunate to receive a few gifts this year in the form of software applications, a two-family house, I am cognizant of the competition for donor support. The Initiative is working to increase annual unrestricted gifts to be better able to fund current Initiatives and meet emerging needs.
