Mission Statement

Indraloka Animal Sanctuary is named after the Sanskrit "heaven for the Gods", and is founded on two principles: 1) the earth herself and all life is sacred and 2) we are all related. Indraloka is a lifelong heaven on earth for animals that would otherwise be euthanized or slaughtered. We support rescue groups by giving safe sanctuary to animals they cannot place, and also rescue farm animals from cruelty. We purposefully take in old, injured, and sickly animals knowing they will end their earthly lives in our care, and view giving them a good death as a sacred act. Indraloka Animal Sanctuary seeks to educate the community, especially children, on ways in which we can better care for ourselves and the environment while helping animals in need. Our five core values inform every action that we take, every day: Reverence Mitakuye Oyasin (Lakota for "We are all related, we pray for all of our relatives") Joy Lovingkindness Mindfulness

Description

We currently have 200+ animals in our care, including cows, sheep, cats, horses, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, peafowl, geese, quails, mules, and turkeys. Many of these are elderly, have chronic medical conditions, or have other special needs.

Indraloka is like a little piece of heaven, on earth, for the animals, as well as, for the volunteers. I feed and tidy up in the morning while the sweet animals all are talking up a storm anxiously waiting for their breakfast. They soon quiet down and rest after a hearty meal. You get so much more than you give knowing you are providing love and attention to once abused, neglected and abandoned animals. I have never worked on an all species animal farm before. I was aprehensive, at first, being around larger animals. You are trained very well and are not asked to do anything you are not comfortable doing. There is such peace at the farm, you forget the problems of everyday life while you concentrate on making the animals feel loved and cared for. They are, after all, deserving of peace and love for the rest of their remaining lives as they already have experienced the worst of mankind and, do not even hold a grudge. If you want to make a difference - Please Volunteer -
