Mission Statement

Total Action for Progress (TAP) helps individuals and families achieve sustainable, equitable economic and personal independence through education, employment, affordable housing, and safe and healthy environments. TAP offers direct services, working with individuals and families, to help them overcome their problems and improve their lives. Our goal is to help them assert themselves as advocates for their own needs.

Description

TAP urgently needs student and adult volunteers for our annual free tax clinic. The clinic operates mid-January through April every year.

* Free online training
* Just six hours per week for ten weeks

As a Tax Clinic Volunteer, you will help TAP achieve its program goal to assist over 800 taxpayers in 2024 through tax preparation, financial capability, post-filing communication and preparation referrals.In 2023, TAP refunded over $1 million back into the community to eligible taxpayers. TAP's Tax Clinic focuses on helping eligible taxpayers receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC). We are a VITA site in partnership with IRS and follow eligibility guidelines. TAP limits its scope of focus and completes both the federal and state tax returns. Tax preparation is free, and all tax returns are submitted electronically. The Tax Clinic also partners with GetYourRefund (virtual tax preparation), IRS Free File and myFreeTaxes (for self-preparation).
