Brighton Hospice is seeking compassionate pet therapy volunteers to make weekly/bi-weekly visits to our hospice patients. Certified Therapy Pets can provide a healing presence to our end-of-life patients by reducing stress and anxiety and increasing feelings of joy, warmth, and connection. Our patients live in facilities and in private homes throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area and beyond. *All pet companions must be pet therapy certified and have up-to-date immunizations and health records. Assist Brighton's support team as they provide bereavement services to the families who have lost a loved one in our hospice program. A hospice grief support volunteer sends mailings and provides telephone support to caregivers of those who have passed away in our hospice program. Callers will contact people at 1-2 months and 11-13 months following the death to offer a listening ear and to see if further follow-up is needed from our staff. Training is provided. Calls can be made from the comfort of your own home on your own schedule! Ideal candidates have: A clear, pleasant phone voice An ability to listen with compassion Willingness to use our computer program to retrieve/log call information Strong organizational skills and dependability Time commitment once trained varies, on average 2-4 hours/month If you are interested in sharing your gift of time with our patients, please reach out and a Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch to discuss the volunteer opportunities available in your area in more detail.
