Mission Statement

The mission of the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) is to enable low-income individuals age 55 and older to remain physically and mentally active and to enhance their self-esteem through continued participation in needed community services. A second purpose is to enable special and exceptional needs children to improve their physical, mental, emotional and social development through regular interaction with a grandparent role model.

Description

FGP volunteers serve 20 - 40 hours per week in Head Starts, schools, day care centers, Boys & Girls Clubs and in hospitals. Volunteers may not have income of more than 200% of Poverty Guideline. They receive a stipend of $2.65 per hour to defray the cost of volunteering. They also receive limited meal and transportation reimbursement. Annual special events are: recognition, holiday party, and Older Americans' Month in May. In addition, volunteers participate in a MLK Day of Service Project which culminates in January.
