The AmeriCorps Read. Graduate. Succeed. program provides one-on-one support from a positive role model for students who need extra assistance in reading. Volunteers individually tutor students in 30 minute sessions and help them make significant progress in reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. The AmeriCorps Mentoring for Success program, part of the Read. Graduate. Succeed. initiative, provides one-on-one support from a positive adult role model for students who need extra assistance in a variety of capacities. With a focus on attendance and math, students are encouraged to enjoy school and succeed every day.

Description

Roosevelt Elementary in Salt Lake City is looking for volunteers to participate in the AmeriCorps Read. Graduate. Succeed. and Mentoring for Success programs. Both programs need dedicated, engaged volunteers to tutor students. You will be a positive role model and friend to at-risk students. It is rewarding and provides an invaluable experience to you! Not only does it look great on resumes, it enriches your life and gives you experience working with at-risk children. It is a perfect volunteer position for students, future educators, retirees, and those interested in non-profit work.

RGS: Volunteers tutor students who need assistance with reading. The program requires that students receive tutoring twice a week in 30 minute sessions. We can work with your schedule to ensure students receive the tutoring they need.

MFS: Tutoring should focus on math, and mentoring can take place in a variety of positive, educational and fun ways. (Do not be deterred by the math aspect; elementary math is very simple for most adults!) These mentors will be paired with 1-2 students who need additional help.

Volunteers must pass a background check through Granite School District. Please email rooseveltreadgraduatesucceed@gmail.com or roosevelt.mentoringforsuccess@gmail.com, depending upon the program you are interested in. Include a resume and any other information about yourself that is relevant to the position. Looking forward to working with you!
