Mission Statement

The mission of the Science Museum of Long Island is to: Stimulate and nurture children’s natural interest in science and help them to discover the power of science through the fun of science Provide science education through hands-on learning Elevate the level of science literacy Towards the mission, the Science Museum of Long Island is primarily dedicated to experiential science education for children. The Museum does this by presenting educational programs, conducting field explorations, and participating in research.

Description

Chartered by the New York State Board of Regents in 1963, SMLI is a not-for-profit science activity center located on the Leeds Pond Preserve in Nassau County. The Science Museum offers enrichment workshops for children on weekdays and during school vacations. We invite teachers and community leaders to learn about our field trips, as well as programs we can bring to your site. All activities at the Science Museum are pre-registered hands-on science workshops. To experience the Science Museum, you must register for our programs.
