Mission Statement

Our mission is to protect and serve animals during their greatest time of need, assist our community pets and their people, and offer homeless pets a second chance at a first-rate life. By providing humane education along with free or low-cost resources, we hope to reduce the homeless pet population in our area.

Description

At the Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark we are passionate about ensuring the protection and welfare of all animals in need. This is the legacy of our founder Robert Kleinstuber, who began the shelter in 1959 as a memorial to his beloved dog, Jeff.

We currently provide animal control impound services for 10 municipalities in Orange & Sullivan Counties and are proud to provide low-cost spay/neuter clinics, adoption and re-homing services, humane education, and community assistance to the tri-state area.

We strive to match our animals with the best possible homes with responsible owners, so they may live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family. The Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark is a private, no-kill animal shelter which relies on donations to run our facility and care for the animals while they await adoption. We have a wonderful, but small staff, so volunteers are the heart of our organization.
