Description

Waterfall Arts is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) contemporary arts center located in Belfast and Montville, Maine.

Waterfall Arts began as the Arts Center at Kingdom Falls in 1998 when founders Alan and Lorna Crichton acquired the Kingdom Falls property in rural Montville.

This exceptionally beautiful site once served as an extension of the original home of Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. After forming a Board of Directors and making necessary improvements to the property, the organization began offering summer art courses and residencies in 2000, and in 2002 received its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS.

The purchase of the former Governor Anderson School in nearby Belfast in December 2005 allowed the organization to expand its outreach to year-round. It began its first programs at the Belfast site in spring 2006 and celebrated its Grand Opening in the building on September 30th of that year. At the time of its Belfast expansion, the Board voted to adopt a new name, Waterfall Arts, to embrace both locations.

Waterfall Arts is committed to providing the high level of artistic accomplishment, diversity, mentoring, and collaboration it has built its reputation upon, while keeping its collective eye on the Montville and Belfast Centers for Art and Design as a community leader, a destination and a fully-engaged member of the Mid-coast creative economy.
