Mission Statement

The Historic District Development Corporation (HDDC) is a nonprofit community development corporation whose mission is to facilitate the preservation, revitalization and non-displacement of residents in the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic District. The Historic King District, also known as the Sweet Auburn Corridor, is undergoing a period of vast revitalization thanks to the collaborative efforts of the surrounding community, concerned citizens, and civic organizations. HDDC has a large footprint in this neighborhood, and currently owns properties throughout the Sweet Auburn Corridor and the Old Fourth Ward. HDDC’s real estate portfolio consists of several affordable housing units, an affordable housing apartment complex, which houses 58 units, and 12 historic commercial properties. Our housing preservation and community development strategies encompass 3 ideals: Historic preservation--retaining the historic and cultural character of the existing community; Non-displacement of our residents, maintaining neighborhood diversity by intervening and improving life opportunities and Sustainability linking mixed-income, mixed-use development to sustainable economic growth, thereby creating an environment where families can be self-sufficient. HDDC is proud to lead the way in rebuilding, restoring, and preserving this vitally historic neighborhood.
