Mission Statement

Camp Kesem recognizes and embraces the often-overlooked population of children affected by a parent’s cancer. Camp Kesem empowers college student leaders nationwide to create free, life-changing summer camps for children affected by a parent’s cancer.

Description

Since 2000, Camp Kesem has given children affected by a parent’s cancer the opportunity to just be kids, something many of them miss out on due to the hardships of illness at home. The ever-expanding Kesem community engages in camp activities like sports, arts and crafts, and drama to give campers a week of worry-free and childlike fun. Campers also participate in "Cabin Chats" with fellow campers and counselors, giving children the chance to share their experiences with each other. There are plenty of laughs and lots of emotional support, but Camp Kesem does not provide therapy. Being with others who have experienced similar pasts like losing a parent helps them find emotional support in each other, and it is the great fun that they have while there which makes Kesem a magical place for campers and counselors.
