Mission Statement
The Minnesota Senior Corps improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement in Minnesota through utilizing the unique skills of those who are aged 55 and better. We strive to increase the number of new volunteers, retain and value current volunteers, while also intensifying the impact and worth of volunteer service.
Description
The MN Senior Corps offers two services facilitated through Lutheran Social Service. One is the Senior Companion Program, wherein seniors visit homebound and isolated elders in their homes, act as a friend and a means to get out into the community. This enables elders to stay independently in their homes for longer. The Foster Grandparent program places senior volunteers in schools to provide one to one tutoring with students who are at risk of falling behind. These volunteers establish and maintain a positive relationship with students that promotes academic and social growth. We offer these programs state wide.
