Become a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Volunteer Advocate

Health Imperative's Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) Programs rely on a pool of dedicated and driven volunteers to provide the comprehensive, survivor-centered services to survivors of sexual and domestic violence. From staffing our 24-7 confidential sexual and domestic violence hotline, to meeting survivors of sexual assault in local emergency departments, to hosting activities and events for guests at our shelter, the options for volunteers to become involved with VIP is varied, and we welcome your unique talents and experience to our program. Our volunteers work hand-in-hand with staff to assist in providing safety, healing and comfort to survivors of sexual and relationship violence. Becoming a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Volunteer Advocate will give you the opportunity to touch people’s lives in a very profound and meaningful way. After completing our training you will be eligible to: Medical Advocacy: Meet with survivors in local hospitals following an assault to provide information, resources, and emotional support Penelope's Place Shelter: Provide supportive groups in the shelter and offer activities for families and individuals residing in the shelter Outreach & Education: Co-facilitate educational workshops, and be a representative of the Violence Intervention and Prevention Programs at local events Hotline & Administrative work: Answer the 24 hour domestic and sexual violence hotline Support all clients in their healing journey If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or intern at Health Imperatives email our volunteer coordinator, Aysha Polanco, at volunteer@healthimperatives.org or call 508-583-3005 x1018 ENROLLMENT PROCESS: 1. Complete and submit Volunteer/Intern Application 2. Complete interview with Volunteer Coordinator 3. Complete CORI/SORI form The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires us to perform criminal record checks (CORI) on all incoming volunteers and interns. CORI checks are submitted at the time of an applicant’s interview. In additional, all incoming volunteers and interns must consent to a Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background check 4. Attend our 40-hour Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Advocate Training (if applicable) Trainings are held multiple times a year, please reach out for more details 5. V.I.P Community Engagement Volunteer

Health Imperatives is seeking a Violence and Intervention Program Community Engagement volunteer/intern for January 2024- May 2024 to assist with a few projects related to community outreach, prevention, and tabling events. This volunteer will be tasked with the following projects: Attending community events showcasing program services Identifying community resources and disturbing flyers and information Engage with community members including youth to deliver prevention activities Volunteers should: - Be at least 18 years old - Have access to a car or public transportation to get to and from our agency - Be available, at minimum, 2-4 days per month including nights and weekends We ask that volunteers are able to make a commitment of at least 3 months to our agency. Health Imperatives is a non-profit community based agency that provides vital health and human services to nearly 30,000 families and individuals each year from communities stretching from Quincy to Nantucket.

Health Imperatives promotes healthy, safe, and vibrant families and communities. We support families and individuals who are struggling to cope with the devastating effects of poverty and violence, individuals who are worried about their health and safety, and parents who may be unprepared for the challenges of raising young children. Our health, nutrition, and counseling programs provide help, hope, and opportunity to local families and individuals.
