Mission Statement

The Narthex mission is to be a gateway to enriching the lives of youth by providing an environment for developing their life skills.

Description

The Narthex Youth Center serves at-risk students from the ages of 12-18 within a 5-mile radius of the facility. The students served are primarily from low-income families, many of which coming from government funded housing units. To promote academic well being students are provided with cost-free tutoring from subject area specialists for all primary subject areas, a fully equipped tutoring cente r, and computer access with Wi-Fi connections. To promote real-life readiness skills the students are provided with college and career planning from local colleges and vocational training specialists. To promote life skills students are provided with programming such as cooking classes; family and personal relations training, such as teen pregnancy prevention and sexually transmitted disease awareness and prevention, and teen leadership classes. To promote healthy living styles students are provided with training in healthy eating habits, healthy relationships with others, and fitness programs. Students are also provided with classical arts training such as art, photography, voice lessons, foreign languages, and dance. All programming is offered free of charge to students. All students between the ages of 12-18 are eligible for programs provided.
