Mission Statement

We provide emergency housing for women and children suffering from any form of domestic abuse. We build stable and independent lives through essential programs offered in a supportive and Christ-centered environment.

Description

Sheltering Wings is a 68-bed faith-based residential domestic violence shelter located in Danville, Indiana (Hendricks County). We provide emergency & transitional housing for women & children suffering from any form of domestic abuse.

Sheltering Wings was founded in 1999 by volunteers at a church food pantry. They became concerned about the number of female patrons suffering in violent relationships & vowed to make a difference. Within a little over one year, $1.3 million was raised & construction for the shelter began in 2001. In January 2002, we opened our doors & began serving families. Since 2002, we have provided safe housing for over 2700 women & children. Since 2002, we have answered almost 13,000 crisis calls & educated almost 180,000 individuals through our outreach programs. In 2013, we served 118 women & 145 children. In 2013, our staff received 954 calls on our crisis line. Sheltering Wings defines success as a resident leaving the shelter for safe, independent living.
