Mission Statement

The Friends of the Aiken County Animal Shelter (FOTAS) is a nonprofit organization createdt o support the Aiken County Animal Shelter and promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in Aiken County so that one day, no adoptable pet will be euthanized. As a result of FOTAS involvement, the county euthanasia rate has dropped from 95% to 69%, but we must do more.

Description

FOTAS supplements the Aiken County Animal Shelters resources to ensure that the 4800 animals that pass through the shelter every year have an opportunity to find a forever home. FOTAS volunteers walk and socialize dogs, play with the cats, work with trainers to make the animals more adoptable and assist at the County shelter in many capacities.

FOTAS also organizes foster care and off-site adoptions and transfers to no-kill shelters in other parts of the Country.

It holds special events, like Woofstock, a Dog, Cat and Music Festival or the Play Fore the Animals Golf Tournament, to raise funds to provide for supplemental food, medicines, toys, leashes, collars and other essential and much needed items to care for the animals.

FOTAS also has developed and implemented low cost spay/neuter services in targeted hotspot areas of the County.
