Excited to get to know people? Interested to hear stories from an older adult? There is a growing need in Western Queens for Friendly Visitors who can visit with a homebound older adult. Friendly Visitors promote feelings of positivity, reduce isolation, and help older adults to feel that they are part of the larger community. Let's not neglect the ones in our neighborhoods. Reach out today to make a difference! Please note that all volunteers must be over 18 years old and live in New York City, New Jersey or Connecticut. Older adults in Jackson Heights, Queens who need someone to visit them. (More than one volunteer is needed). If you have an hour a week you could dedicate to these lonely seniors, please contact me! Friendly visiting is an easy, fun, rewarding way to become involved in your community. Friendly Visitors are volunteers who visit homebound seniors for about an hour each week in their homes. Volunteers reduce feelings of isolation, and help improve seniors' mental and physical health. Seniors are able to stay in their homes and communities longer. Volunteers can dramatically improve the quality of a seniors' life.

Do people say you make friends everywhere? Are you outgoing, talkative, and love to meet people? Are you curious about other people's perspectives? Are you a stellar volunteer who goes above and beyond to help others? You've come to the right place! How it works: our expert matchmaker (program coordinator) will take your unique personality and skills into consideration and match you with an older adult and you will develop a friendship with this person in person at their home. All volunteers must: Live in the New York tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut) and be at least 18 years old. Commit at least six months to participating in our program to build a meaningful relationship with their matched older adult. Provide two references and consent to a background check (more information in the application). Reach out to us to learn more about how you can change a senior's life! I currently have older adults in west/mid-Queens who self-describe as religious, spiritual, or into horoscopes. Due to limited mobility, these older adults needs someone to call them weekly -- a conversationalist who shares similar interests in religion, spiritual outlook, or astrology. Friendly visiting is an easy, fun, rewarding way to become involved in your community. We only ask for one hour per week (or more if YOU chose)! Volunteers reduce feelings of isolation, and help improve seniors' mental and physical health. Seniors are able to stay in their homes and communities longer. Volunteers can dramatically improve the quality of a seniors' life. Please note: You are required to be at least 18 years old and live in the New York Tri-State area (New Jersey, Connecticut).
