Preserving the rich heritage and history of Schuylkill County for generations to come, The Schuylkill County Historical Society offers a broad variety of volunteer opportunities and is currently in need of volunteer assistance. Volunteer positions available include: Cleaning person: Light Cleaning - once a week, flexible hours Clerical assistant: filing and data entry - once a week, flexible hours Research Assistant: Assist patrons with research, using available electronic or hard copy resources. Thursday from 10 to 4 and/or Saturday from 10 to 2 Scanner: Scan photos for electronic storage. Flexible hours. Customer Service Representative: Assist patrons with purchases in the gift shop on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Join the team to improve our local waterways for future generations

Help clean up the environment by conducting a physical assessment, doing monthly chemical testing, and/or a semi-annual macro invertebrate assessment of an assigned waterway in Schuylkill County. For volunteers age 55 and above. Chemical testing and macro assessment are conducted using protocols designed by the Environmental Alliance for Senior Involvement and accepted by the PA Department of Environmental Protection. This is a flexible activity, allowing the volunteer to determine the day of the month and the time of the assignment.

Give seniors the gift of nutrition

Once a week, the Meals on Wheels driver delivers noon-time meals to Meals on Wheels Consumers on a specific route. While delivering meals, the driver also checks on the consumers' well-being. For volunteers age 55 and above. Drivers report to the Senior Community Resource Center Manager where route is assigned to pick up meals, route sheets and any changes. At times, drivers will be asked to deliver envelopes or other information along with meals.

Help emergency responders and those in need during a disaster by resonding to disaster scenes with your team and providing assistance. You could help in an emergency shelter, conduct neighborhood searches, access the injured for medical care needs, or other vital services. Training and support provided. Reports to Team Leader and Disaster program Specialist. For volunteers age 55 and above.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY!

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over twenty hours per week, serving through schools, day care centers, hospitals, environmental and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
