Mission Statement

FRIENDS OF LINDEN ANIMAL SHELTER (FOLAS) is an all volunteer non-profit no-kill animal rescue group formed in 2000. We are dedicated to caring for and finding lifelong, committed and loving homes for the many deserving animals that have either found their way into Linden Animal Control, are unwanted previous pets, or unclaimed strays, regardless of the manner they arrive into our system. We have found homes for hundreds of animals. Our volunteers must have their own health insurance and be at least 18 years old. If you can commit to at least 2 hours a week, we will set you up for a short training session with either the cats or dogs and you will be on your way to making a difference in an animal's life. Please fill out the online volunteer application at folas.org and a volunteer will get back to your shortly.

Description

We promote spay/neuter of all companion animals and strive to educate the public on the importance of sterilization. Animals adopted through FOLAS are vetted, vaccinated, and spayed/neutered (if age appropriate).

I have volunteered since May 2016. The other volunteers are great to work with and you can tell they care about what they do. FOLAS provides training and clear instruction for volunteering. Working with the animals is hard work but fun and very rewarding.

This is a great group of caring people and loving animals. Any of these cats and dogs could be your new best friend. I volunteer once a week and whenever extra help is needed. I love it!

I have been a volunteer with FOLAS since September 2011 and have witnessed firsthand the care and dedication that goes into taking care of our animals. We rescue animals that have been abused, surrendered, and abandoned, and each one is treated with love and adoration. We fight to save each one, spending thousands on surgeries at times, and even bringing in behavioral therapists. Each adopter goes through an extensive process of eligibility because we care so deeply for our animals. I have never seen a sick dog being adopted out as that goes against our core beliefs. My shift starts at 6am and as tough as it is waking up at that hour, I always leave feeling so grateful that these animals have a chance at a deserving life, and in the meantime are hanging out in their clean cages, with their tummies full, getting lots of love from the people that care so deeply for them until they find their forever home. We're 100% all volunteers and do extensive fundraising, please consider helping.

This is an amazing organization. I have been volunteering here for two years and could not be happier seeing the many pups and kitties that have been adopted out from our shelter over the years. We are a small shelter working for a huge cause.
