Mission Statement
It is the mission of Diversified Community Services to provide leadership and services that strengthens and coordinates the Point Breeze and surrounding communities’ efforts on behalf of children, youth and families, especially those that are most vulnerable.
Diversified Community Services (DCS) is a non-profit, multipurpose social service agency located in South Philadelphia. Our mission is to enable children and families to realize their fullest potential and achieve self-sufficiency in safe neighborhoods.
DCS is an anchor institution providing a wide array of services that touch the lives of over 8,000 residents each year as well as providing leadership to increase community resources.
Description
The Intensive Prevention Services (IPS) program is an initiative funded by the City of Philadelphia Department of Human Services that offers case management, counseling, academic enrichment, mentoring and extracurricular activities for at risk youth between the ages of 10 and 17. at no cost to the families.
The IPS program works with youth and their families who have been referred from Family Court, the Department of Human Services, schools, The Division of Juvenile Justice Services, outside agencies and self-referrals.
Our target population is youth between the ages of 10 and 18, with one or more of the following characteristics:
- Displaying any extreme signs of at-riskbehavior
- Chronically truant or late
- Disruptive Behavior in school
- Suspended 3 or more times from school or expelled in the past 12 months
- Arrested within the past 12 months
- A history of running away
- Drug Use
Our major objective is to work with the youth and families to prevent truancy, and to steer youth away from delinquency by offering positive role models, improving school performance and in many cases to help familyrelationships through individual/family counseling and constructive activities. We also aim to enhance life and social skills.
