Mission Statement
The Immigrant Defense Project promotes fundamental fairness for immigrants accused or convicted of crimes. IDP seeks to minimize the harsh and disproportionate immigration consequences of contact with the criminal justice system by working to transform unjust deportation laws and policies; and educating and advising immigrants, their criminal defenders, and other advocates.
Description
The Immigrant Defense Project seeks to redress the harmful impact that current immigration regulations and policies have on immigrants, their families and our communities through impact litigation; hotline that provides legal advice and counsel to immigrants, their lawyers and advocates; publications to guide immigrants and their lawyers in criminal court and immigration court; community eduication and organizing; Know Your Rights presentation; policy and legislative advocacy at the local and national levels.
