The Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, Inc. (BIFMC) is a 501 C (3) corporation. The BIFMC will provide primary health care services and preventive medical services, at no cost, to the medically underserved and their families who live or work on Johns and Wadmalaw Islands and whose annual income is, or below, 200% of the federal poverty level.
The Clinic will open as a non-profit, volunteer staffed and operated free medical clinic, established to provide primary health and wellness services. Two paid professionals,
(A medical director and an executive director) will have operational oversight. The patients served will be persons who live and/or work in the area who do not have medical insurance and cannot afford to pay for medical services because of their income level.The services to be provided by the Clinic are routine medical care and initially will include the following:
§ Primary health care services
§ Community health education
§ Vaccinations
§ Basic eye examinations
The BIFMC will be staffed with volunteers and include medical professionals (doctors, nurses and other specialties) and community volunteers who provide care through the operational and administrative support of the clinic. Volunteers are crucial to the success of the clinic and will operate as a team to accomplish its mission.
