Mission Statement

It is the mission of Caring Unlimited to work with the community to end domestic violence in York County (Maine). This includes providing support and safe haven to women, their children and men whose lives are affected by domestic abuse in a mannner that honors their essential worth, nurtures their inherent strengths and respects their right of self-determination.

Description

Since 1977, when a small group of local women joined together to help their friends and neighbors find safety from the terror of domestic abuse, Caring Unlimited has offered confidential safety planning and supports, free of charge, to anyone victimized in an intimate relationship.

Over the years the organization has grown from the grassroots efforts of a few committed volunteers with no funding to a staff of over twenty paid advocates and more than fifty volunteers with a budget of over a million dollars from federal, state and local sources.

Services include the 24-Hour Hotline, Individual Advocacy, Support/Education Groups, Legal Assistance, Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing and Community Response Program including consultation, training and systems advocacy with York County agencies, schools and community-based organizations, and much, much more.

Since 1977 thousands of women, children and men from every town in York County have found the support, safety, respect and freedom from abuse in their own homes through Caring Unlimited.
