Mission Statement

Cane River Gardens' mission is restore and cultivate a sense of community in the Fifth Ward neighborhood through a garden medium. The Cane River Garden Project is committed to inspire a sustainable community by planting seeds of self-reliance and simultaneously develop a sense of pride and belonging.

Description

The garden is located on Lyons Avenue, the heart of Houston's historic Fifth Ward. We have many different vegetables and herbs growing now from raised beds and will begin our new mycology project of growing within a controlled environment. The mycology cooperative at Cane River Gardens will reuse shipping containers to create eco-friendly architecture maintaining ideal growing conditions. In these containers, we will grow mushrooms all year long. Our 2014 goal is to produce 10,000 pounds of mushrooms for every 160 square feet.
