Purpose: The purpose of the food pick-up is to assist LSS with transporting donated food to our office in Thousand Oaks. Requirements: * Must be dependable and punctual * Be courteous and personable when dealing with the restaurant * Be self-directed, willing to take initiative, patient and have problem-solving abilities * Respect and maintain the confidentiality of Lutheran Social Services clients, employees, volunteers, partners, and donors * Able to drive to transport food and lift up to 20 lbs. Position Description: Each Monday afternoon at 1:00 pm - pick up food from the donation site in Oxnard - transport the containers of food to the LSS office

Purpose: Assists once a week in following up with Spanish-speaking clients, requests for information, and translating documents from English to Spanish. May be asked to help with intakes as well. Location: LSS Thousand Oaks Office Requirements: Conversational in Spanish Spanish reading and writing skills recommended Able to commit to at least a few shifts per month Eager to help underserved populations Background check may be required Position Description: The Spanish-Language Specialist Volunteer shift schedule is flexible depending on availability of the volunteer, but should be about a three-hour shift, about once a week. The SLS volunteer will help us accommodate our Spanish-speaking clients by placing calls to answer questions, take down information, and direct clients to services. Possibility for remote volunteering. This is a great opportunity to help serve the homeless and at-risk population in the Conejo Valley and Ventura County! Support: Training will be provided. The LSS staff are onsite for questions and concerns.

Purpose: The purpose of the Pantry Helper Volunteer is to assist our homeless drop-in center in sorting through the generous donations of clothing and food that come to our office. Requirements: Background check not required Ability to lift 20 lbs. preferred Preference for working in collaborative environments Not afraid to ask for help Position Description: The pantry helper volunteer comes in on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to help sort through the donations we receive. LSS relies on pantry volunteers to maintain an organized and up-to-date pantry. This requires checking food items for date of expiration, ensuring items are unopened, sorting clothing so it is available for our clients, and regularly discarding items that we cannot use or have been damaged.

Volunteers will be in one of the following zones: greeting clients and taking requests, prepping food, prepping coffee and overseeing charging stations for client electronics, and providing clothing, toiletries, or canned food from the pantry. In addition, assistance is needed to sort through donated clothing, food, and toiletries to keep the pantries organized. This is a critical position to help support our clients in getting necessities.
