Mission Statement

Los Embajadores involves young people in service-learning ministry grounded in the Catholic Social Teaching tradition, which animates the values of social justice and global solidarity by immersion into the life and culture of the Mexican people.

Description

Los Embajadores coordinates service-immersion trips to Mexico for high school and college age youth. Los Embajadores has worked within 3 host communities for many years. We have 2 sites in Tijuana, and 1 site in Vicente Guerrero, a small town 5 hours south of the border on the Baja Peninsula.

Los Embajadores is structured around 5 components that create a more holistic immersion experience: Service, Simple Living, Community, Social Justice, and Spirituality. Through service work, youth are able to enter into community with our Mexican hosts. Participants try to live a more simple lifestyle while in Mexico in order to better understand those with whom we are working. As they build relationships throughout the week, youth are able to more closely examine the reality of social conditions, such as poverty and immigration, and use faith as a lens to reflect on these issues.

Our program in Mexico takes place during spring break (March) and summer (June and July), and is coordinated by volunteer leaders.

Each group of youth spends one week in Mexico. Groups come from many parts of the U.S. and Canada, although the majority of groups are from the Northwest, as that is where we are located (when not in Mexico).
