Mission Statement

CASA of Middlesex County is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving abused and neglected children who are living in out-of-home placements. CASA recruits and trains volunteers to advise the courts and advocate for the children’s best interests.

Description

Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was created in 1977 to ensure that the best interests of abused and neglected children were advcocated for in court for well-trained volunteer child-advocates. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be voices for these children in court. Advocates conduct independent, fact-finding investigations, review records, and talk to everyone involved with their assigned cases. Their recommendations help insure that these children are placed into a safe, loving homes. It is the CASA vision to make a direct impact on children's lives.

"It's about helping a child replace a life of hurt with one of hope."

As a recent retiree, I wanted to get involved with a worthwhile charity. Due to my love of young children and knowing there are so many children with support needs, I found CASA of Middlesex County a worthwhile charity to donate my time to. From the beginning, they shared the goal of the program, realistic time expenditure, and training resources, including live training. Additionally, they provide you with a peer coordinator who works closely with you during your first case - which provided me with a level of comfort as I began my role. I have found the program to be fulfilling and enjoy spending time with the child I'm assigned to and working on his behalf.
