Mission Statement

Robey's mission is to explore, develop and produce plays about the Black Experience. The goal is to encourage new voices and to reinterpret established works in order to present a view of the world through a Black perspective.

Description

The Robey Theatre Company was founded in 1994. Our inspiration is Paul Robeson, who was known as "Robey" to his friends. Co-founders Danny Glover and Ben Guillory, believe that Robeson's artistry and advocacy can continue to be forces of inspiration for commitment to change.

Robey shares artistic and office space with an eclectic group of ethnically-specific artistic companies at The New LATC in downtown Los Angeles.

The Robey playwrights program provides an environment for new talent to develop (writers, directors, and producers) --offering all an opportunity for creative expression.
