HELP US EDUCATE OUR KUPUNA AND KEEP THEM SAFE! JOIN THE TEAM AND BECOME A PART OF THE SENIOR MEDICARE PATROL (SMP) HAWAII
The Senior Medicare Patrol is a federally funded program under the U.S. Administration on Aging. We have been in existence in Hawaii since 1997.
SMP is a volunteer-based program based in the State Executive Office on Aging.
SMP has volunteers statewide that are trained in:
- The Role of the SMP Hawaii Program
- Medicare/Medicaid Basics
- Fraud Schemes
- How to Combat Errors, Abuse, and Fraud
SMP volunteers complete a Free 3- day training and become certified to:
- Provide Group Presentations
- One-on-One Counseling
- Education at community events such as Senior and Health Fairs

Mission Statement
The Senior Medicare Patrol is a program of the U.S. Administration on Aging and is sponsored by the State of Hawaii, Executive Office on Aging.
Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP Hawaii) is a volunteer based program that educates our seniors (Kupuna), caregivers and family members statewide about healthcare errors, abuse and fraud.
Senior Medicare Patrol programs, help Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries avoid, detect, and prevent health care fraud. In doing so, they not only protect older persons, they also help preserve the integrity of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Because this work often requires face-to-face contact to be most effective, SMPs nationwide recruit and teach nearly 4,500 volunteers every year to help in this effort.
