Description

How did the Indianola Community Youth Foundation (ICYF) get started? Major League Baseball player and Indianola natives Casey Blake and his wife Abbie initated the Indianola Community Youth Foundation to fund efforts that will benefit Indianola kids. The foundation was created as a way for the Blakes to give back to their community and to build on Indianola’s reputation as a community committed to its youth. What was the first goal of the ICYF? The first goal was to match the $1 million donation from Casey and Abbie Blake and provide at least $2 million toward additional Indianola athletic facilities. The Blake Fieldhouse was built and opened to the public August 2012. Is the ICYF only for athletics? No. The effort to provide additional athletic facilities for the youth of our community was the first goal of the ICYF. The ICYF was created to support efforts that benefit the youth of Indianola. We are developing more programs to reach more youth, and will roll them out gradually. What is ICYF working on now? We are creating a nutrition program to help families in the Indianola community make informed decisions about their meals and snacks. We are currently providing snacks for the varsity teams (at the coach’s discretion). We are always working with the school district to determine when open gym times can be scheduled throughout the year and providing supervision for those open gym times.
