Mission Statement

Our mission: To transform the lives of families with children who are homeless by mobilizing a diverse community to provide shelter, education and comprehensive support.

Description

Families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. All state shelters are filled. 40% of homeless families do not even qualify for state assistance and have nowhere to turn.

Family Promise Metrowest serves families with children who find themselves homeless through no fault of their own. A job loss, divorce, medical crisis, eviction, has forced them out of their home. FPM is presently the first resource in Metrowest to which agencies turn to house families for whom state shelter is not an option.

Volunteers from congregations, civic organizations, businesses, colleges and the community provide hospitality including meals and companionship while families are housed overnight in houses of worship.

Our offices and Day Center, where families spend the daytime hours, are in Natick Center. Each family receives intensive, personal case management with our professional staff to help them address the root causes of their homelessness: completion of GED, ESL, job training, interviewing for employment, et al.

Integral to the success fo the program is Family Promise's ability to provide everything families need while they are guests of the program so that they might successfully save a portion of their income to move into permanent housing including medical co-pays, transportation, clothing, child care, etc.

It is because of the in-kind donations of supplies, clothing, time and talent of our volunteers that we are able to provide shelter and services at a significant savings to traditional shelter.
