Mission Statement

The purpose of S.O.P.H.I.A. is to provide residents of Trumbull County relief to the poor, the distressed or the underprivileged who apply to S.O.P.H.I.A. with (1) guidance and direction for immediate needs, and (2) emergency monetary assistance to selected individuals, depending on the availability of donated funds.

Description

A resource and referral non-profit agency incorporated to meet the need of the residents of Trumbull County to have one place to go to find out what assistance might be available to them, rather than have to go multiple places or make multiple phone calls. Services are provided free of charge and regardless of race, color, creed, religion, sex, national origin, age or physical limitations.

S.O.P.H.I.A. has received a grant of $4,500 from Neighborhood Success, a program of The Raymond John Wean Foundation. This program was created to support grass roots groups in small community development projects that improve the quality of life in neighborhoods of Warren and Youngstown, Ohio, particularly lower income neighborhoods and those at risk of destablization.

The Raymond John Wean Foundation annually grants approximately $4 million. These funds are earmarked for nonprofits in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties. Through these efforts, The Foundation continues to enhance the community's well-being and vitality through grantmaking, convening, advocating and providing leadership with a focus on economically disadvantaged people and neighbrhoods. This grant will support S.O.P.H.I.A.'s mission as stated below.
