Mission Statement

Camara is an organization dedicated to using technology to improve education and livelihood skills in disadvantaged communities in the US and around the world. With better education, we expect these communities to break the cycle of poverty they find themselves in.

Description

Camara was founded 10 years ago and over that time has provided eLearning Centres to 3,100 low income schools in Africa, Ireland, the Caribbean and the US, delivering nearly 62,000 computers and training 16,000 teachers in the process. As a result of this work, 900,000 disadvantaged children have become digitally literate, receiving 21st Century skills that will allow them to build a better life.

The Camara Network currently consists of 8 Camara Education Hubs in Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia, Uganda, Lesotho, Tanzania and South Africa), 1 in Haiti, 1 in England, 1 in Ireland and 1 in USA. These Hubs work directly with schools, Ministries of Education and community organisations in their respective countries. Camara Hubs provide Technology Centers with each school receiving computer hardware, educational software, a comprehensive training program and technical support.

Camara operates as a not-for-profit social enterprise in each country it operates in.
