Description

Community Action Agencies are non-profit organizations created by President Lyndon B. Johnson’s signing of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. Davidson County Community Action, Inc. (DCCA) opened its doors in 1965, as one of the earliest local agencies in North Carolina fighting the "War on Poverty." DCCA currently administers the Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) and a food pantry, which provide the major funding for our efforts to lift families out of poverty and to live in economic self-sufficiency and self-determination.

DCCA’s answer to poverty is to move families from a future of financial dependence to independence, akin to the old adage: "give a man a fish and feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and feed him for a lifetime."
