The Wynnefield Overbrook Revitalization Corporation (WORC) is a nonprofit community development corporation working to revitalize the Philadelphia neighborhoods within the 19131 and 19151 zip codes. WORC's collaborative efforts focus on housing stabilization, commercial revitalization and quality of life improvements.

Description

Within the west Philadelphia neighborhoods of 19131 and 19151, WORC's strongest focus is on the Wynnefield and Overbrook Farms areas in closest proximity to SJU. WORC partners with other stakeholders and community-based organizations to:

  • improve housing conditions, values and homeownership rates
  • stimulate renewal of the area's principal neighborhood commercial clusters
  • pursue redevelopment of vacant commercial and institutinal properties
  • act as an economic development catalyst for neighborhood businesses
  • assist with community and institutional concerns
  • address quality of life issues such as tree coverage, stormwater management, access to healthy food, and need for community recreational facilities
  • secure workforce development opportunities for neighborhood residents, and
  • provide leadership to define and implement comprehensive neighborhood strategies
