Shelter volunteers work in our 48-bed shelter program, where they interact with residents and their children, assist with communal living, and provide supportive and appropriate responses to the residents' needs and requests. They also work with staff to ensure a clean, organized, and fully stocked shelter. Volunteer Time Requirements: 4 hour weekly shift available between the hours of 9am-10pm, Sunday through Saturday. All direct service volunteers must attend our CORE and program-specific training. Join our Response Teams Volunteer Program! Volunteers respond during the evening and overnight, to provide immediate crisis intervention to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Volunteers meet with survivors in person at the hospital and jail or respond by phone to offer support, information and advocacy immediately following incidents of violence. A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required for this program. On-call shifts are 5pm-8am weeknights Monday to Friday and 8am- 8am Weekends. All volunteers are required to sign up for three shifts a month and can pick their preferred shifts. Note: Due to insurance requirements, Response Team Volunteers must be 21, pass a motor vehicle background check and have car insurance. Be a supportive person for a survivor group! Support Group Volunteer Facilitator : Co-facilitators assist the staff facilitator and help create a supportive environment while providing advocacy and education for survivors who have experienced sexual assault or domestic violence. SafeHouse provides both drop-in and closed curriculum-based groups. No previous group facilitation experience is required. Volunteers are required to be available for 2 hours for their assigned support group. Support Groups are based on need and availability. We do provide crisis intervention training and it's mandatory to attend before volunteering with survivors can begin. In addition, we require on-the-job training and a six-month commitment. All direct service volunteers must attend our CORE and program-specific training. Come support our 24/7 Helpline Program! HelpLine Volunteers answer our 24-hour HelpLine. providing crisis intervention, advocacy, education and practical assistance to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault on the phone. In addition, they support shelter residents who need basic needs while on shift. Volunteers are asked to make a minimum 4 hour per week commitment. Shifts are available for 4 hour weekly shifts.
