Mission Statement

Rebuilding Together Saratoga County rehabilitates the homes of low-income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly, veterans or have disabilities, so that they may continue to live in warmth, safety and independence.

Description

Neighbors helping neighbors, like the barn-raising of old, is the American spirit in action. Rebuilding Together is born of that spirit as people come together, usually for a weekend, to help their elderly, disabled and low-income neighbors fix their homes. We repair existing houses for homeowenrs who are unable to do the work themselves enabling people to live out their lives in their own home.

Rebuilding Together Saratoga County provides a truly hands-on experience. I was the volunteer coordinator for a site in Malta, NY where the homeowner was an elderly woman, on her own, with respiratory problems. We replaced her entry way, door, and back deck. She was very appreciative and couldn't thank us enough. Rebuilding provided lunch and t-shirts to all volunteers involved, as well as took photos, provided all necessary materials, and created a positive work experience for all involved. I found this experience to be very fulfilling and satisfying since I was able to help a very deserving neighbor in need.
