I have volunteered at the Tobacco Farm Life Museum for two summers and have assisted with various aspects of the museum including collection care, the front desk and gift shop, and tour activities--the staff respect and truly appreciate the volunteers, allow volunteers to have options in the areas of the museum they would like to work, and take into account volunteers' skills, preferences, and interests when planning tasks and projects. Volunteers are really treated as the important part of the organization that they are. Additionally, the museum itself is interesting and offers a chance for visitors to really learn a lot about the history of rural North Carolina, especially through its hands-on events and activities.
