Mission Statement

STARBASE seeks to raise the interest and improve the knowledge and skills of at-risk youth in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, which will provide for a highly educated and skilled American workforce.

Description

STARBASE is a five day STEM-based academy in which students collaborate to explore various fields of science and mathematics. The students use the Scientific Method to conduct experiments in chemistry and physics, make observations, and analyze data through graphing and comparison to draw conclusions about the world in which they live. They also make use of technology in the form of a high profile CAD program and 3-D printing. Students are challenged to utilize the knowledge they gain to engineer unique solutions to real world issues.

STARBASE has now expanded into the schools as part of after-school mentoring programs with STEM topics. This STARBASE 2.0 portion, includes topics such as robotics and chemistry as is the "next step" for STARBASE graduates.

I loved working with them. The people from the organization are super nice and the program itself its so rewarding. You have the opportunity to show little kids that science is fun. I highly recommend mentoring with them, you are going to love it too!!

The experience at Starbase 2.0 was very rewarding. Working with students on STEM-based project was fun and chanllenging, and seeing student’s progress was invaluable. The administration people are very helpful and easy to work with. I enjoyed the mentoring work there very much.

Very rewarding experience overall. Administrators are incredible people and the experience to the students is invaluable. The connection made with the community by volunteering will make a lasting impact on you.

It is so much fun seeing the kids light up when being introduced to STEM in a playful way. I volunteered here a week per month until I moved away... and I miss the curious kids, the great environment, and the cool team of educators.

STARBASE is an authentic and easy way to directly interact with students around STEM topics. The staff is fantastic with kids and truly cares about improving their lives through education. They always make it as easy as possible to volunteer and are open to your ideas as long as you are passionate about the work. I would definitely recommend volunteering here!
