Mission Statement

The START Center is a 501c3 non profit organization organized in 1992 as the San Benito Literacy Center. Our mission is to provide community-based educational programs, social services, and activities to assist low and moderate income residents of Cameron County and the Lower Rio Grande Valley. The Center encourages and facilitates life-long learning opportunities.

Description

The START Center provides instruction for Adults, (17+), in Basic English, Pre-GED and GED, basic to advanced. START Center also has a homeless prevention program which assists families from, becoming homeless. All programs are at minimal or no charge to the student. The START Center collaborates with may agencies throughout the Rio Grande Valley including Workforce Solutions Cameron, San Benito Consolidated Independent School District, La Posada Providencia and many others.
