OCRRA , or The Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency, was created by the New York State Legislature to manage the solid waste (trash and recyclables) generated in the county.
OCRRA has implemented an aggressive series of programs promoting waste reduction and the recycling of those discards where markets exist to create new products.
Thanks to the people of Onondaga County, the community has a 95% participation rate and reduces the amount of trash it creates by more than 65%. Over 6 million tons of mandatory and voluntary items have been recycled by Onondaga County residents and businesses since 1990.OCRRA administers the local recycling law, provides recycling blue bins to households, operates two yardwaste compost sites, runs household hazardous waste drop-off days, and a household battery collection program.
Mission Statement
OCRRA provides to the community a solid waste solution that is environmentally sound, highly efficient, safe and innovative, by utilizing the optimal mix of waste reduction, recycling, and disposal.
