Presbyterian Homes & Services celebrated its 40th year anniversary in 2007. In 1962, the Utica Presbytery investigated the possibility of building a nursing home for elderly Presbyterians in need of convalescent, rehabilitative and/or nursing care. Today, we have surpassed this need and have gone far beyond the dreams of our founders.

On June 1, 1967, our first resident was admitted to Presbyterian Home for Central New York and by September 1967, our facility was full. Expansion seemed necessary and plans were underway. Many obstacles and delays occurred but the board and their subcommittees pressed on and were able to realize the fruits of their labors. With perseverance, expansions continued and the result is our present 242-bed facility.

In 1986, upon realizing our success in skilled nursing care, plans surfaced for a special needs unit to serve those with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Dovetailing with our special needs unit, an adult day health care program opened in 1988. This program provides all of our health care services to individuals who are able to reside in the community.

After review and careful consideration of our residents' special needs such as Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, our Parkinson's Residence was opened in 2001. This residence is one of the first in the nation located in a skilled nursing facility that serves as a model in the individual's care and treatment.

Since opening our first facility in 1967, Presbyterian Homes & Services now offers home care, wellness, adult day services (social and medical), long-term care, assisted living and rehabilitation.
