Mission Statement

Year Up's mission is to close the Opportunity Divide by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education.

Description

Year Up is a one-year, intensive training program that provides urban young adults 18-24, with a unique combination of technical and professional skills, college credits, an educational stipend and corporate internship.

Our success is our graduates -- enabling them to move on to full-time employment and higher education. Year Up is about providing opportunities for urban young adults to demonstrate their true potential. We have achieved excellent results to date:

100% placement of qualified students into internships
95% of interns meet or exceed partner expectations
84% of graduates employed or in college full time within four months of graduation
$15/hr average wage at placement

Great orientation into the Mentorship Program. Really felt supported as I moved into my mentor role. I've only just begun this process, but I'm really looking forward to creating a professional and supportive network for my 'mentee' to jump into. It takes a lot of personality, follow-through, and patience to become a mentor, I think it's an excellent program to positively impact the life of a young professional.

Year Up is a unique and rewarding experience, and a lot of thought is put into the mentor/mentee matching. There is an elevated level of organization, management and professionalism when compared to other volunteer opportunities I've had in the past. I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking to mentor young people entering the workforce.
