Founded in 1992, BELL pursues its mission by providing educational programs to the children who need them most. The BELL After School and BELL Summer programs feature small-group tutoring in literacy and math; mentoring from adult role models to foster self-respect and social skills; experiential learning through field trips, guest speakers and community service; support for parents to more deeply engage in their children's education; and rigorous evaluation to ensure continual improvement and success for children.
Through education, BELL dramatically increases the academic achievements, self-esteem and life opportunities of the children it serves.
BELL also develops scholars' awareness of community service and its importance. The core values of BELL are quality, empowerment, respect, courage and sacrifice.
We believe that:
- Quality should never be sacrificed in serving our scholars and their families.
- Every individual has the ability to change the world when his/her spirit is allowed to shine.
- Every human being has the right to be respected and that respect is essential for humankind's survival.
- The opportunities we have today are a direct result of the courage and the sacrifices made by our ancestors yesterday. We must therefore be willing to show courage and make similar sacrifices today to ensure that our children have opportunities tomorrow.
