Mission Statement

The mission is to continue the artistic vision of Emmott and Ione Chase and to preserve their garden for public enjoyment and education.

The vision for the Chase Garden is to:

manage and interpret the site as a public garden while retaining its residential character.

establish the garden as a key horticultural education resource for Pierce County and the region through tours, programs and outreach.

offer the use of the house to organizations for meetings and retreats.

promote the Chases' love of nature and practical approach to gardening through the use of native plants and ecologically sound gardening.

Description

Chase Garden is a 4 1/2 acre garden begun in 1960 and built entirely by Ione and Emmott Chase. It is a signicant example of modernist and naturalistic garden styles. Chase Garden emphasizes the use of native plants and ecologically sound gardening practices.

With a stunning view of Mt. Rainier and its foothills, the garden is a peaceful refuge in a hectic world.

The goal of The Friends of Chase Garden, a volunteer group, is to preserve the garden for public enjoyment and to be a horticultural resource for the area.

Chase Garden is a lovely, tranquil garden and the time volunteering there just flies by! I enjoy the other volunteers and learning about native plants, many of which have some home with me to be enjoyed in my own garden. The view of Rainier from the front yard is spectacular!

Chase Garden is gorgeous! The ladies are wonderful and very knowledgeable. I love learning about the plants while propagating and helping with the computers.
