Description

Incorporated in 1953, the Mental Health Association of Morris County (MHAMC) is a local chapter of the New Jersey Division of the National Mental Health Association.

The roots of the Mental Health Association go back to 1909 when Clifford Beers formed the National Committee for Mental Hygiene. Beers had been a patient himself and after his recovery devoted his energies to helping others.

In 1950, Beers' committee and two other groups combined to become the National Mental Health Association, which remains the only nationwide citizens' organization concerned with all aspects of mental health and mental illness.

The Mental Health Association of Morris County is comprised of over 300 citizen volunteers. Like its affiliates throughout the nation, the MHAMC is working for America's mental health and victory over mental illness.

I had a great opportunity to help a sweet elderly client in need and build a new friendship. It was a very rewarding experience, I would probably do it again in the future!
